History of
foundation
Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering (KazGASA) is one of the leading institutions in the fields of architecture, construction, and design. The academy has undergone a long journey of development, combining academic traditions with innovative approaches to education.
1980
Based on the faculties of architecture and construction, as well as the Almaty branch of the All-Union Correspondence Engineering and Construction Institute, the Almaty Architectural and Construction Institute (AACI) was established. The first rector of AACI was Dr. of Technical Sciences Serekpek Mukashevich Baibolov.

1992
AASI was renamed to Kazakh State Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering (KazGosASA).

2000
In 2000, Amirlan Aydarbekovich Kusainov, Doctor of Technical Sciences, was appointed as the Rector. He is an Honorary Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a full member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering. He is also an academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher School of Kazakhstan, an academician of the International Engineering Academy, and a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences (RAACS). A renowned scientist, educator, and innovator.
That same year, the Lyceum and College under KazGosASA were established.

2001
The Kazakh State Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering was renamed to the Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering (KAZGASA), highlighting its status as the country’s leading institution in the fields of architecture, construction, and design.

2007
KazGASA became part of the International Educational Corporation (IEC), which unites several educational institutions within a unique educational ecosystem. KazGASA received international accreditation in the specialty "Architecture" from UNESCO-UIA.

2009
Regularly hosts the International Festival of Architectural, Construction, and Design Schools of Eurasia.

2015
IEC (KazGASA) successfully passed international accreditation by IQAA (Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education).

2020
The results of the monitoring once again confirmed the standing of the general license of IEC (KazGASA).

2023
The main academic building of KazGASA has been fully renovated in accordance with modern standards. New scientific laboratories have been established, including a research base for seismic impact studies and geotechnical investigations.
The university also hosts a military department that trains reserve officers and sergeants.
KazGASA is ranked among the top 10 universities in Kazakhstan according to the "Atameken" National Chamber of Entrepreneurs and continues to strengthen its position on the international stage by actively developing partnerships and innovative educational programs.

2024
A UNESCO department was established. KazGASA became the first university in Kazakhstan to join the international consortium of architectural and construction universities — the "Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium" (BRAUIC).

2025
In 2025, IEC (KazGASA) successfully passed institutional and program accreditation, confirming its compliance with modern standards of educational quality. The academy has strengthened its position as a leading university in the fields of architecture, construction, and design by actively implementing innovative approaches, sustainable practices, and fostering a supportive ecosystem for the professional and personal growth of both students and faculty.
